Big files need a moment. Please leave this tab open until it finishes.
Your file is ready
Something went wrong
Change a video into another format
Drop in the clip you need to fix, or a whole set of recordings from your phone, camera or screen recorder.
Make sure MP4 is the chosen output (it is preselected on a first visit); optionally cut a section, shrink the resolution or drop the sound.
Follow the live percentage, then save the new file, or a ZIP archive when several clips were processed together.
Everything you need to get a playable MP4
MP4 that opens almost anywhere
Output uses H.264 picture and AAC sound, the pairing supported by Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, smart TVs and video platforms. Fast start is switched on, so the file can begin playing on a web page before it fully loads.
Lighter files for sharing
Three presets trade size against detail. Combined with a lower resolution or frame rate, a heavy recording can become small enough for a chat app, a learning platform or an email attachment.
Cut before you send
Play the preview, stop at the moment you want and copy that position into the start or end box. Only the selected stretch ends up in the finished MP4.
Private by design
The FFmpeg engine works inside your own tab, so interviews, family moments or client footage never travel to a server. There is no account to create and no watermark on the result.
Convert video to MP4 for everyday tasks
A clip that will not play is a small but real blocker: a classroom portal rejects a WEBM file, a client cannot open your MKV, an old AVI refuses to start on the living-room TV. MP4 with H.264 and AAC is the format nearly every device and website expects, so turning the recording into one usually solves the problem. This toolbox page does it for free, with no program to install.
Typical jobs people use it for
- Students and teachers preparing a screen recording or a phone video of a presentation so the school platform accepts it.
- Office teams and HR sharing a training clip or a recorded video interview in a format colleagues can open without extra players.
- Real estate agents turning walkthrough footage from a camera into a lighter 720p MP4 for a listing page.
- Freelancers delivering edits to clients who only want "something that plays", and converting a batch of drafts at once into one ZIP download.
Getting a good result
For a one-off clip, keep the Balanced preset and the original resolution. When upload caps are tight, step down to 720p: the picture is scaled proportionally and is never enlarged beyond its source. Portrait recordings from phones come out the right way up. On a phone or an older laptop, files below about 500 MB are the comfortable range; anything over 2 GB may run out of memory, so trim it to the part you actually need.
Not only MP4
The same page can also produce WEBM, MOV, MKV, AVI or an animated GIF, and it can strip out the soundtrack as MP3, WAV or M4A when you only need the audio.

Questions people ask about this task
How do I change a MOV file into MP4?
Add the MOV clip, keep MP4 as the target and press Convert. The picture is re-encoded to H.264 with AAC audio, which plays on Windows PCs, Android phones and most TVs as well as on Apple devices.
Can I turn an MKV or AVI movie into MP4 for my TV?
Yes. Both are accepted, along with WEBM, WMV, FLV, 3GP, MPG and TS recordings. If a file uses a codec the in-browser engine cannot decode, a message tells you so instead of producing a broken file.
Will converting to MP4 lower the quality?
Every re-encode changes the file a little, but the Balanced preset is tuned to look like the source. Pick High quality to keep the most detail, or Smaller file when size matters more than sharpness.
How can I make an MP4 small enough for WhatsApp or email?
Choose the Smaller file preset and set the resolution to 720p or 480p; lowering the frame rate to 24 or 25 fps saves a bit more. Trimming away the parts you do not need has the biggest effect of all.
Why is the conversion slower than a desktop program?
Your own processor does the encoding inside the browser, and that is slower than native software. Under More options, the Fastest encoding speed finishes sooner at the cost of a somewhat larger file.
Do I have to install anything or sign up?
No. The engine (roughly 31 MB) loads into the page the first time you use it and is cached for later visits. You can start converting straight away, without an account.
