Turn a PDF into an EPUB e-book
Pick the PDF you want to read as a book, or select several to build a whole reading list.
An options window lets you check the book details, cover and chapter style. If they look right, leave them as they are.
Press the convert button, save the .epub file and open it in your favourite reading app.
Built for reading, not for printing
Easy on a small screen
Broken lines are merged into flowing paragraphs, so you set the font size and the text wraps to match. Page numbers, repeated headers and footers disappear, split words are glued back together, and two-column articles stay in order.
Jump to any section
A navigation menu is made from the bookmarks of the original file, from its headings, or from a fixed number of pages. Both modern and older e-readers can show it.
Looks like a finished book
Use page one as the front cover or add a JPG, PNG or WebP picture of your own. Figures land next to the paragraphs they belong to, and Arabic or Hebrew books read right to left.
A whole reading list in one go
Select many files and each one comes out as a separate ebook with its own title. No program to install, no login and no watermark: the work happens inside your browser tab.
Turn PDF into an ebook: who it helps
Reading a PDF on a phone means pinching, zooming and dragging the page around after every line. Rebuilding the same document as an EPUB lets the words wrap to the width of any display, so long reads become comfortable again. Here are a few jobs people use it for.
- Students: turn lecture notes or a course reader into a book you can read on the bus, with each topic in the chapter menu.
- Teachers: share class handouts and short stories as ebooks pupils can open on school tablets at a comfortable font size.
- Office and HR teams: give new staff the employee handbook or a product manual as an ebook they can read on any device.
- Freelancers and writers: proofread a draft or a client report on an e-reader, away from the desk, before sending it back.
Before you convert
Files exported from a word processor or LaTeX give the cleanest result, because they hold real text the tool can rebuild. A scan is just a set of photos of paper; make it searchable with OCR first, otherwise its pages arrive as images. Check that the book name and author are right, since that is what your library app will display.
When to keep the original layout
Comics, picture books, brochures and magazines rely on their design more than on the words. For those, choose "Exact page look": every page is saved as a picture and the menu follows the PDF bookmarks. Text in this mode cannot be resized or searched, so keep the flowing layout for anything that is mostly text.
Good to know
Tables become plain paragraphs, and charts drawn with lines rather than images are not cut out. A locked file asks for its password, which is used only on your device. If a huge document runs out of memory, switch off pictures or split it into smaller parts.

Questions people ask about this task
How do I turn a PDF into an ebook for free?
Choose the file on this page, check the book details in the window that opens and press convert. You get a standard .epub file at no cost and without creating an account.
Do I need to install any software to make an ebook from a PDF?
No. The whole job runs in your web browser on a computer, tablet or phone, and the document is never sent to a server.
My PDF has no bookmarks. Will the ebook still have chapters?
Usually yes. The tool then looks for larger or bold heading lines and starts a new chapter at each one; if the text has none, files longer than 15 pages are cut into parts of 10 pages. Pick "Every N pages" to set a different size.
Can I choose my own cover for the ebook?
Yes. Pick "Upload an image" in the cover menu and add a JPG, PNG or WebP picture, or keep the first page as the cover, or go without one.
Why does my ebook show whole pages as pictures?
Either the source was scanned, so its pages hold no real text, or the "Exact page look" layout was chosen. Run the scan through PDF OCR first if you want words that wrap and resize.
Which apps can open the ebook I make here?
Apple Books, Google Play Books, Kobo, PocketBook and most e-reader apps open it directly. Kindle owners can pass it through Send to Kindle.
