Translate a PDF document step by step
Drop your document on the page. It needs real text inside; a scan has to go through OCR PDF before it can be translated.
Confirm the source language the tool guessed, choose the language you want to read it in and tick one or more result files.
Hit Translate, follow the progress bar and the minutes-left counter, then save your files. The model works locally, so the document stays with you.
What this PDF translator does for your paperwork
Pages that still look like pages
Logos, photos, charts, coloured boxes and links are left alone. Only the wording changes: every paragraph is rewritten in the new language inside the spot it came from, in a matching text colour.
Three files for three jobs
A translated PDF to send on, a DOCX in reading order to polish the wording, and a two-column bilingual DOCX for comparing versions or studying a language. Tick whichever you need.
Only the part you care about
Type a range such as 1-3, 8 and the rest of the document is skipped and left untouched. Running headers and footers are handled once, and before you start you see a rough time estimate for the selected text.
No server, no account
The translation engine is downloaded once into your browser cache and then works on your own machine. Choose the Fast mode with a small model for your language pair, or the Universal mode that covers 100 languages in one larger model.
Who uses a PDF translator like this, and for what
When a document arrives in a language you do not read, you rarely need a perfect literary version. You need to know what it says, today, without emailing it to a stranger. That is the job this toolbox handles.
- Students: read a German or French research paper in English, and keep the bilingual DOCX to learn the vocabulary as you go.
- Office and HR teams: check a foreign CV, an employment certificate or a supplier policy before deciding who should review it properly.
- Freelancers: understand a client brief or terms of service in Italian or Polish, then answer with confidence.
- Real estate agents: give an overseas buyer a readable version of a brochure or a building report, with the photos still in place.
- Teachers: turn a class letter into Ukrainian or Romanian for the parents of a new pupil and print it with the same layout.
Choosing the right result file
Pick the PDF when the look matters, for sharing or printing. Pick Word when you plan to rewrite sentences. Pick bilingual when someone has to compare the source with the translation line by line.
Good to know before you start
The first run for a language pair downloads roughly 115 MB, about 230 MB when the route goes through English, or around 650 MB for the Universal mode; later runs reuse it. The new text uses a plain sans-serif font and may be set a bit smaller to fit, and the tool tells you if a paragraph overflowed. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Hindi, Bengali, Thai and Vietnamese targets arrive as Word only. Treat the output as a working draft: anything official should still pass through a professional translator.

Questions people ask about this task
Is there a free PDF translator that does not upload my file?
Yes, this one. Reading, translating and rebuilding the document all happen in your browser tab; the only thing fetched from outside is the translation model, once, from huggingface.co.
Can I translate a PDF from English to Spanish, German or Romanian?
Yes. Pairs like these get a compact model trained just for them, which gives the most natural wording. In total you can choose between 47 languages, including Polish, Ukrainian, Turkish, Greek and Dutch.
How do I translate only a few pages of a long PDF?
Open "Pages and translation model" in the options and type the pages, for example 2-5 or 1, 7. Only those are processed, which saves a lot of time on long files.
Can I fix the wording after the PDF translator is done?
Yes. Tick the Word document to rewrite sentences in any word processor, or press Open in editor in the result window to adjust the translated PDF directly.
Does it work on a phone?
It does, but translation uses a lot of memory. On a phone stick with the Fast mode and a handful of pages per run; the Universal mode is meant for computers.
What if my PDF is locked with a password?
You are asked for the password, which is used only on your device. Because the file is encrypted, the result comes as Word; for a same-look PDF, remove the protection with Unlock PDF and run the unlocked copy.
