Quick guide

Turn a PDF into an editable Word file

01

Drop in a single PDF or a whole batch. A locked file prompts for its password, which never leaves this device.

02

Pick Editable text for documents you will rewrite or Exact layout for forms and flyers, then set a page range and the OCR language if you need them.

03

Press Convert to Word and save the DOCX, or one ZIP holding a DOCX per file when you added several.

What you get

Stop retyping, start editing

Edit instead of retyping

Broken lines are stitched back into sentences, split words lose their hyphens and titles receive real Word heading styles, so the navigation pane and an automatic table of contents are ready to use.

Tables that stay tables

Prices, dates and labels lined up in columns land in proper Word table cells. A bold top row is marked as a header row that repeats when the table runs onto the next page.

One tool, two kinds of output

Reflowing text suits reports and letters you plan to rework. Positioned boxes on top of the original page artwork suit application forms, menus and brochures that must keep their look.

Paper scans and private files

Image-only pages are spotted for you and read by OCR in any of 28 languages. The whole job happens in this browser tab, so confidential paperwork never reaches a server.

Convert PDF to editable DOCX: who uses it and for what

Somebody sends you a PDF and asks for changes. Retyping it wastes an afternoon; copying and pasting scrambles the line breaks. This toolbox rebuilds the file as a real Word document, with paragraphs, styles, tables and pictures where you expect them, so you can open it and start editing.

Everyday jobs it takes care of

  • Students: pull a lecture handout into Word, add your own notes under each heading and quote passages without retyping them.
  • Office teams: update last year's report or price list when only the PDF survived.
  • Freelancers: correct a client contract or proposal and send back a tracked-changes version.
  • HR staff: refresh a job description or a policy handbook that exists only as a PDF.
  • Real estate agents: reuse the text of a property brochure for a new listing.
  • Teachers: turn an old worksheet into an editable template for the next class.

Before you press convert

Decide whether you need to rewrite the content or just fill it in. Rewriting calls for Editable text; filling in a printed-style form is usually easier in Exact layout. For a scan, check that the OCR language matches the page, because a wrong language lowers accuracy. Want a single section? Type its pages instead of converting all of them.

What may still need a quick touch-up

A table that was drawn as a picture remains a picture. Fonts missing on your computer are swapped for close matches, which can move a few line breaks. OCR text from blurry or tilted scans should be read through once. The rest of the formatting, from bold and italic to colours and multi-column reading order, is carried over automatically, with no account and no watermark.

Answers

Questions people ask about this task

How do I turn a PDF into a DOCX I can edit in Google Docs?

Add the PDF here, keep the recommended Editable text mode and save the DOCX. Upload that file to Google Drive and open it with Google Docs; LibreOffice Writer and Microsoft Word open it too.

Do I need Microsoft Word installed to convert a PDF?

No. The DOCX is built by this web page inside your browser, with no plugin or desktop program. You only need a word processor afterwards, to edit the result.

Why is the text in my DOCX not editable?

The PDF was most likely a scan, so each page was only a picture. Run it again with the OCR switch on and the matching language picked, and the words become real text you can change.

Can I edit a PDF resume in Word after converting it?

Yes. Editable text works well for simple, single-column CVs. For a heavily designed resume with sidebars, Exact layout keeps the look, although moving whole sections around is easier in the first mode.

Is there a page or size limit for converting PDF to editable DOCX?

No fixed limit is set; your device memory is the only cap. If a very long file stalls on a phone, convert it in parts with page ranges like 1-50 and 51-100.

What happens to running headers and page numbers?

Text repeated at the top or bottom of the pages goes into the Word header and footer instead of cluttering the body. Page numbers turn into automatic fields when every page of the file is converted.
