Change an audio file into another format
Add the recordings or video clips you want as MP3. Many files at once work too.
Leave MP3 selected, set the bitrate, and cut or level the sound if the job needs it.
Play back the new track, then save it, or take the full batch in a single ZIP.
MP3 by default, five other formats when a job needs them
MP3 for any player
Old car stereos, smart TVs, school laptops and messaging apps all accept MP3. Pick 64 to 320 kbps and the card shows how big the finished files will be before anything runs.
Soundtrack out of a clip
A screen recording, a phone video or a webinar file can go in directly. Its first audio stream comes out as a standalone track, and big video files are read from disk rather than loaded whole.
Edit while you convert
Mark an in and out point on the preview player, even out the volume, add a short fade or play a slow talk back faster at the same pitch.
Five more targets
When MP3 is not the right fit, the same screen saves M4A (AAC) for Apple apps, lossless FLAC or WAV for editing, and OGG or OPUS for compact web and voice files.
Convert audio to MP3 for everyday jobs
MP3 is still the safest choice when you do not know what will play the file. This toolbox decodes the source on your own device, re-encodes it with the LAME MP3 encoder and hands back a file named like the original. Song titles, artist and album fields travel with it unless you switch tags off.
Real situations it handles
- Students turning a recorded lecture from a phone (M4A or AMR) into a small mono MP3, sped up to 1.5x for quicker revision before an exam.
- Teachers pulling the soundtrack out of a video lesson so pupils can listen on any device without streaming.
- Offices and HR teams converting WMA or WAV voicemail and meeting recordings to MP3 so they fit in email and the shared drive.
- Freelancers sending a client a podcast cut or voice-over draft that opens with one click.
- Real estate agents taking the background music or narration out of a property tour clip to reuse in a new video.
Getting a good MP3
Start from the best source you have: an MP3 made from a WAV or FLAC sounds better than one made from another MP3. Turn on Normalize loudness when several recordings were captured at different levels; it targets -16 LUFS. To make a ringtone or a short clip, load just that one file, play it, and press Use player at the start and end points.
Things to know
Surround audio is folded down to stereo, because MP3 here is limited to two channels. At very low sample rates the encoder caps the bitrate (160 kbps below 32 kHz, 64 kbps below 16 kHz). Cover art is dropped, and a video with several language tracks gives only the first one.

Questions people ask about this task
How do I change a WAV file into an MP3?
Drop the WAV in, keep the MP3 card selected and press the Convert button. At 192 kbps the MP3 is roughly seven times smaller than CD-quality WAV and still sounds clean for most listening.
Can I turn an MP4 video into an MP3?
Yes. Load the MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM or AVI clip and choose MP3. You get only the sound; if the clip is silent, the tool says so instead of saving an empty track.
Which MP3 bitrate should I pick for music or speech?
For songs, 192 kbps is a safe middle ground and 320 kbps is the highest MP3 allows. Lectures, interviews and voice notes sound fine at 64 to 96 kbps, especially in mono.
Can I convert a whole folder of audio to MP3 at once?
Yes. Select many files together; each one is processed with the same settings and the results can be saved together as one ZIP. Trimming is only offered when one file is loaded.
Do I need to install anything to convert audio to MP3?
No program and no account. The engine (around 31 MB) loads into your browser on the first visit and stays cached, and your recordings never leave the computer or phone you are using.
Why will my iTunes song not convert?
Tracks locked with DRM copy protection cannot be read by the tool. Unprotected M4A and AAC files from your own library convert normally.
